Spook Party recap!

HALLOWEEN TIME! yay! Remember the party invites I created about a month ago? Well Ian and I threw an awesome Halloween party for my 25th birthday on Saturday night! My birthday isn't actually until Wednesday, but we celebrated on Saturday with all of our friends from out of town! I had so much fun hosting this party, decorating, deciding on the menu and just general preparing. SO much fun! Here's some shots from the night!

Before the party, Tori & I threw up some streamers around the apartment and the ones on this utility door became the backdrop for our costume photos!
Skeeter from The Help
My sister Anna as Barbie!!
A Lumberjack
Andy Dwyer from Parks & Recreation
Rosie the Riveter
Giorgio Tsoukalos
My hunky Indiana Jones
The Bride of Frankenstein
A Crazy cat lady and her cat!! (HA!)
Court and Steven put so much work and hilarious thought into those costumes.
Yours truly as the Tooth Fairy!

haha Phoebe found her own kind! Crazy cat lady and the cats cuddling together!

Overall it was a fantastic party. I had the best time and it was a great way to celebrate my birthday with all my friends! Maybe it will be an annual event? ;)

My Nana, the Painter

Bet ya didn't know my Nana is a painter! She is! She works with watercolors and is SO talented! I've been pestering her for awhile to make a painting especially for me. This might sound a little morbid, but she's not going to be around forever and I wanted a painting of my very own to keep forever and show my children. So she surprised me with this one!
I was THRILLED that she did poppies because I have poppies as a motif all over my living room! The painting is simply gorgeous and I got this really nice rustic, raw wood frame for it. LOVE. She did such an incredible job on it and I feel so special that it was made just for me. It's going to be a keepsake that I hold on to for forever!

Thank you Nana! I love you!

I love you, Mom!

Happy Sunday and Happy Mother's Day to all those wonderful women out there! I wanted to give a shout out to a few outstanding mothers in my life! Mainly, my mom, Shelley. She's been the greatest mom anyone could ever ask for and more.

Some of my favorite memories with Mom are:

*walking around Indiana Beach with Anna in the stroller and she would buy us a Luigi's hot dog
*cooking various things when I was little
*the time we put gummi octopus in her mouth when she was sleeping
*the frequent trips to the orthopedic clinic when I was having hip surgery
*all the times we went to the pool with the Youngs
*going to Tri County after school each day to work on the musical set
*when Anna and I put on a pretend music concert and she came and took pictures. haha
*driving around in Lafayette while Anna was at Night School: goodwill, Steak & Shake, Jo-Ann's.
*Mom driving us to visit Dad at ACP
*"a apple"
*all the brilliant halloween costumes she made us
*field trips. especially the time she was the chaperone to the Children's Museum and she lost me. haha
*watching her sew the patches on our girl scout uniforms
*back to school shopping trips
*her coming in for the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Spanish class
*doing the craft kit club with her every month when I was little
*bringing home book orders and her letting me buy whatever books I wanted
*playing paper dolls with me when they worked at Clark & Moore
*trips to Florida involving "Armadillo Driving Music"
*taking stupid pictures in the Bass Pro Shop, especially with the badger
*spending an entire day and night organizing a new filing system for her house
*dressing up like Disney Princesses and having a photoshoot
*finding that TLR camera at the garage sale and her buying it for me
*all the support she's given me through my OCD diagnosis to now

I love you so much, Mom! I hope you have a fantastic Mother's Day and that Anna & Dad are nice to you! ;)

I also need to give a shout out to my fantastic Mother-in-Law, RenĂ©e!

Thanks for all the incredible love and support you've given me the past 5 years!

 I love you both!

Kilt Klash

Here's a treat for you-- my husband in his kilt. His family is VERY Irish and they celebrate to the max every year. They go to Irish festivals throughout the year as well. This is only one of Ian's kilts! His boss told him he could wear it to work yesterday, so he wore it with his tennis shoes and work polo! HA!

The Cat that Thinks She's a Dog

She's my favorite little fur baby: my cat Phoebe. I wanted to share a few funny things about her.

1. Ever since we got her, I've done what I call the "Lion King" where I grab her in one hand and hold her all the way over my head. She's always so passive when I do it and she just sits up there and looks around. I just image her saying "Man I can see everything from up here..."

2. She's always done this double meow thing where instead of just meowing once, she'll do 2 right in a row really fast. She does it a lot of times when she wants to say "Hey! Don't leave me out!" It's her attention meow. If Ian and I are cuddling on the couch, and we don't include her, she gets upset. We can't even TOUCH without her wanting in on it.

3. Phoebe won't TOUCH treats. I've tried so many types of cat treats for her and she won't have any of them. I've even tried to force her to eat one just to see if she TASTED it, maybe she would like it, but no. She WILL NOT do it. And if I mix them in with her food, she will pick them out and leave them in the bowl.

4. We'll buy her toys and she'd rather play with a milk ring, plastic bag, or crumpled up paper ball. We don't even waste our money any more. lol

5. When I'm in the shower, she'll climb between the shower curtain and the liner and I'll be able to see her silhouette. haha Then she'll lay on the bath mat outside the tub and keep me company until I get out.

6. She wakes us up at 6:30 AM EVERY DAY like clockwork. She's much like a baby. Ian and I will lay in bed sleepily arguing about who has to get up and feed her.

7. She LOVES Pop Rocks! We put a tiny dab on her tongue one time and she loved the popping sound and kept trying to eat the air. haha Any time we open a pack, she comes running for a taste.

8. Phoebs will oftentimes sleep upside-down like such:

9. We have lots of silly little names for her: Phoebs ("Feebs"), Phoebers ("Feebers"), Pretty Girl, Wittle Baby, Fur Baby, Kitty, etc etc.

10. She plays FETCH! I don't know HOW I taught her to do this, but I realized one day that I was playing fetch with her! I taught her to bring the paper ball back and drop it at my feet. Here's a funny video I made:

no one ever believed me because she won't do it with a lot of people around, so I filmed it and now there's proof. hahaha

She's the sweetest, but most WILD little kitty ever and I'm so glad that we chose her! She's my little fur baby and I love her so much. :) Do you have any fur babies in your life?

Handmade by Mom: Fashion Edition

I'm here sharing a fashion post tonight! This is a super special one too because my mom made me this gorgeous tunic inspired by this gorgeous piece by Elise Blaha. I saw the dress back when she first posted it and knew that I wanted to recreate it with my own twist somehow. While I'm fairly adequate at sewing my own clothes, my Mom has been sewing for 40 years and is MUCH faster. haha She whipped out this stunning tunic for me in about 3 hours.

tunic: handmade by my Mom
cami: Wal-Mart
leggings: Target
wedges: Target
belt: Target
headband: Claire's
handbag: Forever 21
leather bracelets: Target
Thanks Mom for making me such a wonderfully gorgeous tunic. I can't wait for the second one you're making me on Wednesday. :) You're the best mom a girl could ever have: making me pretty things to wear and all. :)

Here's a new fashion mood board for the end of summer too:

Right now I'm loving navajo inspired patterns and textures, earthy tones, and ultra girly pieces! What pretties are taking over your summer wardrobe lately? I know you've got obsessions: spill it. :)

I love my Dad

Just wanted to pop in and say Happy Father's Day to the greatest dad a girl could ever ask for. :)

Here are some of my favorite memories with my Dad growing up:

cuddling on the couch when I was little
going to the jail where he worked and him showing us cool stuff
when he called me "Newt"
the Snoopy Dance
the little plastic pink Indiana Beach wallet he bought me and i thought was so cool.
learning to fish
Daddy-Daughter dances at school
him coming home from clown school with different things to show us each day
lasso-ing him in the front yard
all of his police maneuvers he would show us
going to the jewelry store to buy Mom that pearl ring for Christmas
him getting us army flashlights for Christmas like Harriet the Spy had
learning to use a pocket knife and a compass
long hiking trips, especially those with scavenger hunts involved
taking Julie (our dog) in the woods to go tracking
going out at night hunting for nightcrawlers
playing in the field near our old house: flying kites, playing softball, etc.
him taking us to Voight Park to play softball
just... everything. He was an awesome dad for 2 girls. :)

I love you Dad!

Family Addition

Now that Ian and I have settled down in the apartment and are done with school and the wedding, we have really been enjoying our time to pick up our old favorite hobbies again! We are also so excited that it's a new year and a new start to our marriage and our lives. :) To celebrate our excitement for this new beginning, we added a member to our family:

Meet Phoebe (pronounced "Fee-Bee")! We adopted her from a pet store/rescue center in our town. She was blatantly given up by a family because they couldn't keep her anymore so we decided to take her in. :) She's an 8-month-old adorable "mutt" and SO friendly. All she does is purr. :) We have wanted a pet for awhile now and while we really wanted a dog, we felt like a cat would be a more appropriate idea for our apartment for now. We had a really fun time taking one of our gift cards from the wedding and getting some cute supplies too. :)

She was so rowdy today so is was WICKED hard to get photos of her, but I'm sure I will have a whole Phoebe Portfolio soon enough.

So that's the latest news in the Davis household! Life is life and life is good.

Florida Chronicles: Sketch Adventures

Greetings, everyone! I'm back with a peek into my sketchbook from Janel's 30 Day Journal Challenge! It's only been going on for 4 days, but I've had plenty of time to work on the prompts since I've been in Florida. They've been fun! I encourage all of you to join in! <3 Janel too. Cute girl!

Prompt #1: Design a full page introducing yourself.

Prompt #2: What is the best part of your day?

Prompt #3: Draw a person you love and write them a letter.
Prompt #4: What does your heart look like?

And here's just one for fun:

Oh and for your viewing pleasure, here is a video of me and my cousin Malinda being silly at my grandma's house in Alabama. haha She's such a nut but I love her. :)

NOTE: For some reason, my video got cut off on here, so if you want to watch it properly, just click on it and view it in youtube! Thanks!

That's all for now!
