DIY: Star Baby Crown

I've been itching to do a project for quite some time and I FINALLY was in a position to do one last night. I'm quite proud of the way this turned out, and after I wore it to work today, I got TONS of compliments! So read, make, and enjoy this cuttteeee festive project for the new year!

Supplies:
*fabric
*metallic pleather
*cookie cutter or stencil
*colored pencil
*metallic ribbon
*glitzy rivets or brads
*scissors
*sewing machine

Step 1:

Use your cookie cutter or stencil to trace the shape of a star onto the backside of your pleather. Trace a slightly larger star onto the fabric of your choice. Layer these materials to give the star the "shawdow cropped" feel.

Step 2:

Pin the star shapes on top of each other respectively and use your sewing machine (or hand sew) to sew the perimeter of the top star. Then, if you want a more "messy" look, zig zag across the stars and give it some character.

Step 3:
Pin each star to a length of pretty ribbon 1 1/2 yds. long. I positioned mine to overlap a bit. Use a zig zag stitch setting on your sewing machine and sew down the middle of the ribbon to secure the stars in place.

Step 4:

Use some jeweled brads, studs, or rivets to be-jewel your Star Baby Crown. You can use a Crop-A-Dile to put on the jewels, a Beadazzler, or just an old school craft mat and hammer! There's no rhyme or reason to placing them, just achieve a nice arrangement and make sure the under-side of the hardware is hammered down really well so it doesn't snag on your hair when you wear the headband.

And that's all there is to it!

I find that it's cute and glitzy. Perfect to start year 2011 with a bang. Plus it's handmade and what's more magical than that? I want to wear it everywhere I go!

Happy crafting!
