Welcome to my Pity Party

Sooooo I had an interview with Old Navy yesterday. Mind you, I've been sick as a dog for approximately the past 84 hours. I was crying and dizzy and just flat out SICK. I dragged myself to the interview. Rather, IAN had to drag me there. Faked it like it was my JOB and ended up getting an offer.

I still haven't accepted.
But I'm going to today.
I AM NOT happy about it.

I'm just... tired of working all these crappy jobs I don't care about. I wanted something for this summer/fall that's in my field. Something photography or graphic design related. Something creative. Something where I can make a lot of decisions and not have someone breathing down my neck to make sales...

But apparently that's not happening for me yet. I'm just tired of jumping through hoops for people. I'm tired of having to suck up. I'm tired of having mean supervisors that make me hate my job.

I hope this job won't be like that, but I don't think it's too much to ask to actually LIKE what I do. So now I'm 22 years old and I'm getting ready to have yet ANOTHER mediocre part time job that I don't care about. I don't KNOW any of those people. I have to learn everything from scratch including attending a 4 HOUR training session... UGH. I'm just not thrilled about it at all. In fact, I'm just really torn up about it.

I know I should be happy, and that it IS still a job. In this economy, I should be happy to have anything at all, it's just the fact that I have to be a stooge for yet another company. That and the fact that who KNOWS how much I'll see Ian this summer with us working separate schedules.

I guess I just want someone to tell me that it's not going to be THAT bad and that it might actually be fun. Can someone please do that and pacify me? haha

I mean, there are lots of positives:
1. it's a JOB after all
2. air conditioned
3. it's not the crappy amusement park i used to work at
4. i love their clothes
5. employee discount
6. clean
7. it's not food service
8. only part time which leaves plenty of time for photography
9. the one manager I met seemed nice
10. i've worked retail before so I KIND of know what to do
11. I prayed for a job and i got one. I really need income.
12. it's in Anderson with Ian

so yeah. I have a lot to be thankful for. It's just not what I want to be doing. Ok. I should stop moping. It will be great.... right?

Oy vey.

Its not forever. Just a temporary solution, so you can persue the thing you really want to do. I am 30, have been in your position, but we all come out of it to lead the lives we want to live. You just gotta go through some torture so that when you get where you want its realllllly great. Remember nothing great comes easy. Good luck!

Aww...bummer! I totally know what you mean about the jobs - I can't wait to start doing fun stuff that really inspires me! Hang in there - by next summer you'll be married and have a great summer job that you can express your creativity! Who knows - maybe you'll be able to set up displays at Old Navy? :)

i worked at old navy for a long time. i'll give you the two great positives: 50% everything at gap and BR, and the staff is laid back and really cool. that's all i got :) hopefully you feel better.

I worked at Old Navy for a year and a half back in college, and absolutely loved it. The pay was certainly nothing to write home about, but for what I needed at the time, it was fine. I worked mostly doing logistics/merchandising (aka: shipment, store layout, etc.), and it's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything in the world ... as odd as that might sound.

Oh, and the discount for ON, Gap, and Banana is definitely the best part!

oh hey, I've been to that old navy! =]

I've been searching for a decent job for what seems like ages now. I'm about ready to resort to retail as well. I really just want a decent job though, something I enjoy doing and where I can learn something.
I'm seriously considering taking off to Australia if I don't get a job by the end of May!

But hey, you can work at Old Navy now and keep your options open. You don't have to be stuck in a job like that. Besides, they do (from what I've been told) have good discounts and aren't horrible places to work (and anything's better than food service!).

think of it as job experience. that is really what you need. no matter the details of the job itself, you will be interacting with numerous people and experience all levels of service. you will learn how to tolerate stupid people like you wouldn't believe and you'll figure out all sorts of things about yerself that you didn't know you needed figuring.

ON has a marketing department and who knows, you begin by merchandising there, move on to more stores and shift over to other companies.

i worked retail until i was 33 and while it had its downsides, i met all sorts of amazing people and learned all kinds of things about myself. you'll have a blast as long as you think you will, it's all about what you bring to the table. yay for jobs and money! and it is only temporary. keep your eyes open, you never know.

a hug and a squeeze from me xxoo
